Nice to know, but this is one economist who won't change your life

It was a good effort but the author tried to make J R McCullogh seem like a very important part of classical economics and McCullogh's impact simply doesn't show. Technically the book is written well in regards to it's economic focus and explanations, this author is a very good writer. I did find his style a bit strange in describing McCullogh's life in phases. Even though the book is written well for it's economics information, it failed to impress me that McCullogh had much of an impact on economics. He was "the first" professional economist and that is important but his actual contributions seemed to always slip into the wake of Adam Smith and David Ricardo, flipping between both of their "original thoughts". In summary, not a book that will add much to your economic knowledge but it's not a difficult read or does it take too much time to complete.

The book breaks new ground by examining both the creative and destructive forces at play in the making of modern Turkey and by addressing the overwhelming frictions during this profound transformation and their long-term consequences. By considering spatial transformations at different scales—from the experience of the individual self in space to that of international geopolitical disputes—Kezer also illuminates the concrete and performative dimensions of fortifying a political ideology, one that instills in the population a sense of membership in and allegiance to the nation above all competing loyalties and ensures its longevity.

This is simply one of the best stories I have ever read. The writing is just great. You get to know the characters at a very personal level. They live, they die, they suffer. All in front of you. However, you never feel overwhelmed by so many details. The plot gets you to an unexpected ending that leaves you thinking for quite some time after you have reached it. Thinking about love and hate.

"La broma" me impactó por su profundidad al analizar las motivaciones humanas pero, sobre todo, porque pude encontrar en esa novela las mismas circunstancias que mi esposa me contaba que se vivían (¿se viven?) en su Cuba natal. Es una novela imprescindible para comprender una época: la del socialismo en Europa oriental, y cómo ese sistema anulaba a los individuos. Pero, política aparte, es una de las mejores novelas de la segunda mitad del siglo XX.

Three Stalks Of Corn is great for children.

Politi does a great job of conveying a culture that is beautiful and real. The story shows how wonderful family is and how resourceful we can be. It is also educational showing some Spanish words and giving their English meaning. It also demonstrates Mexican cooking and includes a couple of recipes in the back of the book. This book isn't very long and is certainly worth sitting down and reading with your child.
